Fiddlin’ Around
In an earlier post, Dan listed the many resolutions passed by the legislature this year. At first glance many of them seem like a waste of time, but I really don’t think they are. We seldom spend much time on them and it’s nice for folks to occasionally receive official recoginition or condolences. The resolutions are often important to those who are affected by them and sometimes they actually do something good.
One example is HJR51 that established the official Alabama State Fiddle Championship at Panoply in Huntsville this year. I just got home from the event and it was GREAT! The participants included some of the most talented folks that I’ve ever seen from all over the country. I especially love to see the children cultivating the passion for music. I believe that it was well worth the less than 5 seconds of legislative time that it took to pass it.
Fiddlin’ around isn’t always a bad thing.

I wonder if our resident legislator/guest blogger got to do any pickin’ with those shade tree picker guys under that big oak tree on Monroe Street.

Didn’t mean to sound to hostile to all the resolutions. Some of them are a little silly, but it really doesn’t matter one way or the other. I listen to the live House audio when I can and I’ve heard a few of those go through before. It honestly takes all of 10 seconds to put a barrage of 3 through.
Sounds like it was a good time in Huntsville. Panama City Beach was just what the doctor ordered, though, so I’m not sorry for missing it.

Mike, I have personally heard your pickin’ and I can tell you the recoginition for all the fiddler players is well worth it. Not to mention my wife has always wanted to learn this same talent. If only we all had such a musical talent!!!

Dan, I knew you weren’t hostile to it; I just wanted to plug my fiddling contest on your blog. Sometimes when I’m fiddlin’ around in Montgomery, it’s actually with a fiddle.
Good to hear we both had a nice weekend. Now we’ve got to quit fiddling around & get back to work. How ’bout some constitution reform?
