Quote of the day

Filed under: Free the Hops - 01 Mar 2008

From the Philadelphia Daily News about a new idea from Miller to sell “craft light.” This quote is about light beer in general:

People drink it not because they’re counting calories, but because its watered-down, ordinary flavor allows them to mindlessly pound one after the other without the inconvenience of actually tasting the stuff.

Light beer is lowest common denominator beer, brewed for and enjoyed by the masses.

Still, more power to you if that’s how you want to live your life. Just stay off the roads afterward. Another good quote from the same article.

Miller just might pull it off! This is, after all, the same brewery that 30 years ago managed to convince “real men” that it was OK to drink diet beer.

I’ve never understood how watery, thin, tasteless light lagers were “manlier” or “more traditional” than the complex and full-bodied beers that have been brewed for millennia.
