Riley wants to expand double-dipping ban
Governor Riley authored a piece in the Press-Register calling for a complete ban on double-dipping. Last August, the State Board of Education banned the two-year college system from employing legislators. Now Riley wants all state agencies to ban legislators.
That ban, which currently applies only to employees of the two-year system, should be extended to cover employees of all state agencies, four-year universities and K-12 schools.
Rep. DuWayne Bridges has introduced such legislation, called the “End to Double-Dipping Act.” This bill, HB 668, would ban double-dipping in every government institution.
I’d feel a lot better about this if it wasn’t sponsored by one of the two biggest neo-Prohibitionists in the House. I know one thing has nothing to do with the other, but… I don’t know what he said, but he’s wrong.
This seems much less reactionary than simply banning two-year employees from being legislators. Of course it’ll never pass. Well, maybe it will if enough “No” votes are indicted by US Attorney Alice Martin. Then again, maybe she’ll be indicted herself before she has a chance.
