One Disappointment After Another

Rep. Mike Ball - 05 May 2008 @ 9:04 pm

This week in the legislature has been disappointing for me. HB20, the transparency bill that I am convinced could be a huge deterrent of public corruption, is dead for all practical purposes this session.

The bill passed out of committee on February 21 and the House has passed a boatload of bills since

The answer is simple, the powerful Chairman of the Rules Committee Ken Guin has chosen to delay the bill until it has no chance for passage. It’s supposed to come up for debate next Tuesday, the last day

Don’t individual members of the Rules Committee have “slots” or something? So couldn’t a Republican friend on Rules put it up? I thought I heard that somewhere but it might be wrong or oversimplified.

The members of the Rules Committee can only select from the “Preapproved List”. Both Cam Ward and Blaine Galliher were ready to put the bill on the Special Order calendar, but it was held ’till now. This was the first chance Cam has had to put it on the calendar.

Of course, Republicans are also under represented on the Rules committee and both budget committees, because some the Dems had their feelings hurt during the ‘06 elections.

Hurt feelings? My God! Last session these half wits voted themselves a 62% payraise and today wish to build a Taj Mahal to honor their corruption!! Feelings? please spare me. The only feelings I would care to see would be about 95% of the legislature begging forgiveness from the lions in a Roman Coliseum. Alabama is the most corrupt state in the union because of the Alabama Legislature and its power sharing arrangement with lobbyists via PACS. Many members of the Alabama legislature can barely speak english, complete a sentence, recognize the distinction between a verb and an adjective or a gerund, yet continue to kiss the ring of AEA for the very thing they dont have, functional literacy. I hereby nominate John Rogers and Rudy Davidson, Ambassadors of Abecedarian Simplicity Slubberdegullion Order of Honor.
